Being Responsible for Children
Guardianship in family law is when a non-biological adult is attempting to gain physical and legal custody of a minor. This legal arrangement is done for a number of reasons. Examples of guardianship cases range from an uncontested case of when a parent realizes they can not take care of their own child, to a friend or family member removing a child from a home due to neglect or other issues that threaten the well being of the child. In all cases, Guardianships are complicated and can sometimes take quite a long time to resolve. Due to those issues, it is usually a good idea to receive some kind of professional help, whether you hire a private attorney or go through a pro-se advocate program.
